Fire Extinguisher Update
Major Legislative Update – AFFF Foam Ban Now in Effect
As of 4 July 2025, the use and supply of fire extinguishers containing Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) is prohibited in the UK under new environmental regulations aimed at eliminating PFAS-based substances.
- Impact: AFFF extinguishers are now banned for supply and recharging.
- Action: Responsible Persons should immediately review and update fire extinguisher provision to ensure compliance.
- Recommended Alternatives: Water mist, foam alternatives (non-PFAS), or dry powder (depending on risk type).
- Reference: The Persistent Organic Pollutants (Amendment) Regulations 2024 (SI 2024).
